As many of you have probably noticed, something called Gary Fung stole all the images, sounds and text of TouchScan, copied the look and feel as well as Icon and Name, added a “Pro” to the end and started selling it.
People think it’s a superior verion to the original TouchScan and hence buy it. When they see that it’s hardly working, they come back complaing…and the come back to ME! That’s great! The app is crashing a lot, you can enter two results (yes, he copied the settings-dialogs as well) but the app can use just one…go figure! That’s what the thief Gary Fung calls “the best deal for my customers”. Problem is, I get the support mails!
Anyway, ars technica wrote about it and scammer Gay Fung seems to be scared enough to have replied at once, again saying he didn’t do anything wrong. So, Mr. Fung, let’s get this straight: You stole from me and that is against the law anywhere on this planet!

On monday I released a new Version of TouchScan, namely 1.5.2. Well, to be exact this was the day it hit the AppStore. And now, only 3 days later I find it cracked again, as all the previous versions before, on the internet. It’s somehow sad but on the otherhand it’s kind of flattering aaaand…the speed is somehow pretty impressive.
So far only about 10% of all users have downloaded the version 1.5.2 (new sales included!)…so there aren’t that much people out there who actually have the software allready. How big is the chance that one of the hackers got it’s grip on it allready? Fascinating…
After a veeeery long wait of about 6 months Apple informed me again that it will not let Don’t Touch (a.k.a. Cracker) in the AppStore. The reason is the same as the other times before: misuse of standard user-interface elements. Since I used a button like the one in Awake in my last attempt to get it in the Store I don’t quite get it anymore…but anyway, that’s how they decided.
Lately I’ve seen many others trying their luck with similar applications but so far, none of them was accepted.
